Bake-O-Matic!
Welcome to the Creative Writing Bake-O-Matic!

Here at Urban Writers Retreat we are (by which I mean I am) very fond of baked goods. Rewards, bribes, call them what you will, sometimes a writer needs a cake. I like to treat people at the writing retreats with a little bit of homebaked goodness, and in the past I've cooked whatever I felt like making.

But no more! I introduce to you the Creative Writing Bake-O-Matic, where you can help me to choose the cakes our writers so desperately need to stimulate their creative flow. I'll bake the most popular option each month for the retreat, unless anyone comes up with an option I really fancy in the 'other' box.

The poll is open to all, whether you're coming to the retreat or not, so ladies and gentlemen, please don your thinking, erm, oven gloves and cake your pick!

November 2009

I'm sorry there's no poll up here; the Bake-O-Matic has gone on sabbatical! It will be back in 2010, never fear, and November's goodies will be seasonally themed. At the moment I'm thinking pumpkin spice cupcakes, but to be honest it depends on what I find in my cupboard the day before the retreat. Feel free to email me suggestions though!

October 2009: Spiced cupcakes, earl grey tea chocolates, chocolate-dipped honey & orange cheesecake bites.
September: Strawberry cheesecake cupcakes. And brownies (of course).
August 2009: Limoncello and white chocolate cupcakes. 'Like little lemony clouds!' said one writer, as she gleefully polished one off. And brownies.
June 2009: Pistachio green cupcakes - my first attempt at decorating nicely after an excellent decorating course with Fair Cake
May 2009: overwhelming votes for 'Some sort of lime/lemongrass/ginger cake' (plus some brownies).

Pre-Bake-O-Matic goodies at the writing retreat included:
Brownies (varying recipes and degrees of success, often shaped like a giant star)
Dulce de leche brownies
Chocolate cupcakes
Vanilla cupcakes (in pale green, seasonally decorated with bunnies, with butter or water icing, and some that were very oddly shaped)
Spiced cupcakes
Flapjacks
Jam Tarts (well overdue a comeback, I say)
Shortbread

What comes next is up to you, and I'll keep you updated on the Bake-O-Matic Results...
